The Design, Print & Packaging Skillnet, in collaboration with the Irish Printing Federation, is proud to announce the launch of a new industry-focused training initiative: the Print Media Technician Programme, commencing in Autumn 2025.

This two-year programme is designed to address a pressing need within the Irish print and packaging sector – developing skilled, adaptable talent with a deep understanding of modern print production environments.

Why This Programme?

The print industry continues to evolve, driven by digital transformation, rising customer expectations, and the demand for faster, more flexible production. As experienced operators retire and technology becomes more complex, the need to develop and retain skilled staff has never been more urgent.

This programme provides a structured pathway for building those essential skills, combining online tutor-led learning with workplace-based application and expert company support.

  • Pre-Press, Print & Digital Artwork
  • Print & Digital Printing Machine Management
  • Finishing Machine Operations
  • Health and Safety Best Practice
  • Manufacturing Standards and Continuous Improvement
  • Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Real-world Masterclasses and Industry Insights

The programme is open to all Irish Printing Federation member companies and is suitable for:

  • New entrants to the print and packaging industry
  • Production operatives looking to upskill
  • Staff working in litho, digital, finishing, large format, packaging, labels, or related services
  • Companies seeking a structured training route for junior staff

It is particularly beneficial for businesses aiming to strengthen their in-house capability, reduce skill gaps, and build long-term team resilience.

A Collaborative Approach

What sets this programme apart is its close alignment with workplace learning. Each trainee will be supported by an expert witness from their company , someone who can provide guidance and context in real-time, helping bridge the gap between theory and practice.

This partnership between training providers and employers ensures the course remains relevant, applied, and focused on real-world outcomes.

Cost and Registration

The full cost of the two-year programme is €2,000 per participant, significantly subsidised by DPP Skillnet with support from Skillnet Ireland.

Having recently completed the TU Dublin-accredited Masters in Professional Practice, I am delighted to recommend it to other experienced professionals seeking to advance their business acumen in areas such as digital marketing, strategic management, finance, leadership, and business communications.

This is an intensive, 11-month course and is both rigorous and highly practical, blending in-person and online sessions to accommodate working professionals. Personally, it deepened my understanding of key business areas such as team development, coaching, leadership, and strategy. It also afforded me the space and time to work specifically on our business with a group of other experienced professionals from diverse business backgrounds. I found the collaborative environment and expert instruction invaluable, and the skills acquired have already enhanced my professional effectiveness and strategic perspective. It also fulfilled a long-standing personal development goal.

I highly recommend this programme for professionals aiming to elevate their career and leadership capabilities.

Andy ClarkinManaging Director, AG2

This course was just what I needed to increase my knowledge and sharpen my strategic thinking. It was a brilliant way to build on skills from my years of experience and to combine that experience with new theories. The small class size made it easier to connect with and learn from my tutors and fellow students, who were all industry professionals. There was a genuine sense of camaraderie when working together that made the course much more enjoyable than I had expected. I am so grateful to DPP Skillnet and TUD, and I would highly recommend this programme because it gave me much more confidence in myself and my future as a small business owner.
