Leading Digital Transformation in Organisations

The “Leading Digital Transformation in Organisations” micro-credential is a part-time, six-week program from Maynooth University and the Innovation Value Institute, designed for professionals to learn how to lead digital change.
Led by Course Director Dr. Michael Hanley, this short-form micro-credential programme equips professionals with the knowledge, strategies, and practical skills to lead AI and digital transformation initiatives within their organisations. Designed for impact, the programme focuses on applying proven frameworks and methodologies to deliver measurable business outcomes.
What You Will Learn
Participants will gain expertise in planning, governing, and executing transformation programmes that align with organisational strategy. The curriculum blends current research, case studies, and hands-on activities to build capability in:
- Leading Change: Driving organisational change to support digital adoption and cultural alignment
- Strategic Planning: Linking transformation initiatives to business objectives and long-term goals
- Governance: Establishing structures and processes for accountability, compliance, and value delivery
- Digital Portfolio Management: Prioritising and managing digital initiatives for maximum impact
You will also develop practical skills to:
- Describe the business value of digital transformation in the context of strategic and operational goals
- Explore the impact of digital technologies on people, processes, and resources
- Apply business analysis tools and techniques to:
- Assess current digital capability maturity
- Identify capability gaps that limit growth and competitiveness
- Define targeted improvement actions to achieve strategic outcomes
- Use Design Thinking methods to innovate digitally enabled processes, solutions, and services that improve customer experiences, enhance operational efficiency, and create new value opportunities across the organisation

Course Structure
This course adopts a hybrid teaching and learning approach. Sessions will be delivered live online via Microsoft Teams and on campus in the Innovation Value Institute’s training room, Eolas Building, North Campus, Maynooth University, Co. Kildare.
The course fee is €2000 Design Print and Packaging Skillnet have a 50% Learner Fee Subsidy available
The programme consists of six blocks:
Blocks 1–4 will run between 27th November and 11th December 2025, each comprising two 2-hour interactive lectures per session.
Blocks 5 & 6 will take place on 7th and 14th January 2026 as full-day Design Thinking Workshops on campus. Each workshop will run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and focus on the final assessment project: Innovate a Digital Product or Service for Your Business.
This blended format ensures flexibility for remote participants while providing hands-on, collaborative learning during the in-person workshops.
Course Assessment
The course is continually assessed, culminating in a final project assignment based on topics covered during the programme. The assessment for the module is a written case study (e.g. a project plan, business model, workflow, or new product or service prototype description) regarding the use and application of digital technology to enable a process innovation or redesign, a digitalised service, or development of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The case study might be situated in the participant’s work or professional context or applied to an organisation capability maturity gap.
Entry Requirements
National Framework for Qualification Level 8 award 2.2 grade in a relevant discipline is desirable. However, this module is open to experienced professionals who do not hold a primary or higher degree, with entry via Maynooth University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning initiative.

Micro-credentials are small, accredited courses designed to meet the demands of learners, enterprise and organisations, created by Irish Universities Association (IUA) partner universities in consultation with enterprise. Micro-credentials provide learning opportunities which offer a highly flexible, bite sized and accessible way of upskilling and reskilling. Our micro-credentials are research-led and quality assured by Maynooth University. Learners may choose to simply complete one individual micro-credential, or continue their studies as lifelong learners, advancing their skills and knowledge over time.
