The Diploma in Packaging Technology is a nationally recognised qualification for those wishing to develop a career in the packaging industry and for those who wish to expand and formalise their expertise and knowledge. The qualification is broad, and provides an opportunity to study the principles and fundamentals of packaging, the manufacturing process of various substrates, their conversion and the various print and packing processes.
Participants will receive the only Diploma qualification in packaging technology which is accredited at Level 7 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications and will also be provided with the opportunity to network with industry peers.
Those achieving the Diploma will be able to apply this knowledge in making decisions associated with the technical and aesthetic performance, cost, safety, logistic and legal requirements of packaging materials and packed products.
This course is run in conjunction with and accredited by Dublin Institute of Technology
Who should attend this course?
This Diploma is designed for people working with packaging in manufacturing or filling on a day to day basis. Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years experience in a packaging environment and ideally possess a qualification at Level 6 or above. The diploma is particularly suited to persons responsible for specifying or working in a role as a Packaging Technician. It is also suited to those buying or selling packaging or those using / packing / filling in the Food, Drink and Pharmaceutical sectors.
Travel details to the venue/parking
The location of the programme will be confirmed. The programme will be delivered in two 3 day modules and eight 2 day modules between late September and May of the following year. 2 day modules will be on Friday and Saturday. 3 day modules will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The following modules make up the Diploma Programme:
- The Fundamentals of Packaging Technology and the Packaging Supply Chain
- Packaging Materials and Containers 1
- Packaging Materials and Containers 2
- Package Printing and Decorating & Packaging Machinery
- Managing the Packaging Function (Research Project)
The syllabus will be examined through a combination of end of year exams and project which will require submissions at Christmas and May of the following year.

This programme is provided by a number of industry experts who have lectured in this area for a number of years. This allows a strong combination of the theoretical background to the technological aspects of the programme to be coupled with real world experience.
All trainers are also experienced in facilitating discussions amongst the programme participants who can often bring specialist knowledge of some aspects of the programme.
